Raspberry Lace

Image
Scarf selfie! It's a scarfie. 😎  I absolutely love the look and feel of this lacey piece. It drapes perfectly, looks like a royal garment, and is deliciously comfy around the neck. Of course, this is not actual lace, and that is one of the interesting things I learned about while working on this piece. The history of lace is a fascinating read, and I've barely started to explore the basics. Thanks, internet! 😁  I have enough of this yarn to make a dozen more lacey lovlies like this, in several colors. But... I'm going to wait a while before I work with this yarn again. Winter time static electricty made it difficult to handle this yarn! Can you believe that?! The weight of this fiber is superfine, and right now static electricity is enough to move it right off your finger tips. Sheesh. Crochet problems. 😅 It's interesting to try and get a sense of scale with this piece. All bunched up in the palm of my hand, it barely feels like anything is there. This scarf used u

These two sparkling beauties were so easy to make, I'm definitely going to make many more like these. The design here is as easy at it gets: a basic mesh pattern. No ruffles needed. Please, no fringe, no trim!  😎 T he sparkle inside the yarn makes these items glam enough without any other fancy fluff.  The navy blue colored yarn (on the left) is "Vanna's Glamour" in fine weight. It is almost lacey, but much easier to work with than lace. The aqua colored yarn (on the right) is "Date Nights," a  medium weight fiber which feels much lighter than that, and is simply delightful to work with. Both yarns have just a bit of elasticity, which adds to the ease of working with them. I used a size K crochet hook, and I'm curious about trying a size larger and a size smaller with these yarns for future projects. They drape beautifully, and will make perfect scarves for an evening out. With their sparkle, they almost look like necklaces. I might make thinner version

Winter Green

Winter luxury happened here! This is where comfy cozy meets gorgeous green, and every stitch of it is soft enough to dream on. I absolutely loved making this velvety piece. I started working on it a week or so before winter solstice, and I finished just in time for Christmas. It was such a joy to have it for posing with holiday props. It is not exactly a table cloth, but the way it drapes is perfect for brightening up a gloomy corner, with just one small end table and a few glittery bits and pieces. It is also perfect on the coffee table. Talk about texture in the middle of the living room! Long enough to drape fully over both ends, and wide enough to just hang a bit over each side, this piece lets the brighter wood color show through the mesh, while complementing the dark brown of the sofa. When I was making this piece, I thought it might be a really big scarf, or a rather small throw. I never knew it would make a perfect cover for the coffee table. Just don't spill any coffee o

Sage and Sand

This wonderful mess reminds me of a silly dog I used to love, and the trio of rascally kids that he belonged to. Sam, Justin, and Moriah (my cousin's kids) are all grown up now, and Hunter passed on to the happy hunting grounds in the sky. They are all still dearest to my heart, and they continue to influence and inspire me in ways they will never know.  The combination of earth toned colors in this crochet piece is supposed to look grown up, just like Hunter was maybe going to be a smart Labrador Retriever who knew how to hunt and track. But the mix-matched way all the layers are formed puts this delightful piece in the category of playful, just like Hunter always was. From puppy to old dog, he never seemed to mature, but he was forever lovable. I labeled this piece Sage and Sand, because of its herbal and earthy colors. I'm satisfied with that name, but I must admit, it actually doesn't match how this piece  feels, folds, and drapes. Sage and Sand is a title that might co

Candy Snow

Image
I crocheted this pair of summer'y whites in August, when the sun was blazing hot and I wanted to work with something light and airy. These two lovely ladies seemed perfectly suited for that sunny season. Speckled with pink and purple, they look like how breeziness feels. They reminded me of flowery fresh air. But now that there is snow on the ground, these same two summertime scarves seem even more perfectly suited to this winter'y season.  Notice (above) that the yarn in the body of the piece on the right is the same yarn in the edging of the piece on the left. That is pretty much the only thing these two items have in common. And yet, still, they go together...like peanut butter and jelly, or like candy and snow. 😍 Notice (below) that they drape quite differently from each other, with the ruffle in the one complementing the flat edging of the other.  The piece with the flat edging has a lovely way of rolling up nice and snug. Because of its ability to roll up tight, stand
