Christmas Curls

Image
These cuties are all wrapped up like a Christmas present! They are just little ruffles, gently twisted - wound up to be twirlie-whirlies. And, when I say, "just ruffles," I don't actually mean JUST ruffles. 😁 I mean they are just too cute, and way too much ruffle'y fun. Like a little Christmas toy for crochet geeks. 😎 Twisted super tight, and then folded into a circle, these little twirly toys turn into wreaths! How cute is that?! 😍 This is the perfect way to use up yarn leftovers and scrappy bits of random colors. Twisted together like this, anything goes, and everything works.  Peachy, pink, and orange? Yes, please!  Ruffles look so magical in any color, they're perfect for holiday decorations. Even in non-traditional colors, these twirly toys just feel like cute Christmas curls. This video (below) shows a three toned ruffle, with a peach-colored base of starting chain and one row of dc, then the ruffle in pink (I did three and four stitches of trc into each ...

"Unboxing Becky"

Image
Aw! This makes me so happy: my dearest cousin, Cathy, opening boxes from me. 😍 I sent a few small boxes of my simple stuff, just the usual colorful creations that I love making. And I love it even more when those creative crochet pieces go to a good home. 😎 Free-To-Good-Home could be the title of this blog, instead of Under Color Crochet. 😁 Because all of my crochet items are donated to friends, family, and organizations that can best make use of them. And Cathy is using them to cheer, warm, and inspire her students! I am absolutely thrilled about that. 🤩 In the snapshot above, Cathy has just opened the box with the gray sister of Sister Shawls .   And below, she is opening the box that contains one of the two Devil'icious pieces. The other sister of Sister Shawls and the other Devil'icious piece went to Inara... Now that I think about it, I need to get those two fabulously creative gals together.   😎 To see the whole playlist of videos, go here: U...

Cape Closet

This blue'n'white quartet combo makes me so happy. 😍 I had way too much colorful fun working in just these simple hues. Here's a photo album, Shapes of Capes , full of proof that I enjoy this too much. 😁 I have a long term love affair going with blues: Blue Moon , Two Blue , Blue and Blue . And with whites: Snow Day  (when it's all about pure vanilla'ness),  Candy Snow , and  Fireworks Cake Volcano Circus  (when it just needs a dramatic touch of white contrast).  I absolutely love the shapes of these capes. 🤩 The blue cape is made with extra fine weight yarn, with a touch of sparkle. And the white cape (more of a shawl, really, but kinda cape'y, too 😎) is made with a bulky weight chenille that feels like warm cloud. Two completely different textures, but one feel of love from me for both. 😍 The blue cape turned out so shapely because of the three strands of extra fine yarn, all worked together simultaneously. The whole piece still has the lightweight feel o...

Bag-o-rama

I absolutely love this fun'n'friendly bag pattern that my Crochet_Nerd_Girlfriend, Trisha, gave me! 😎 The original pattern has asymmetrical handles (see below for Trisha's perfect version), but I modified mine with the skinny straps you see above. I combined two skeins, one pure white and one a "flower garden" color scheme (thanks,  Yarned & Dangerous ), to make it nice'n'sturdy. And this easy breeze'y pattern is so easy-peas'y because it just goes round'n'round. Here's what that looks like:   No turning after each row, just keep going, and it builds all the way up, to whatever height you want to make it. As in: Folder of Colorful Fun . I am so into this pattern, I kept going and going, and just ended up going crazy. 😍 It's the good kinda' crazy. 😁 Next up is a set of 4 pictures that Trisha sent me, of her work and her work-in-progress. Check this out: Just look at how cool those asymmetrical handles are! First, she did a...

Trashy Treasures

What's a gal gonna do with one bag and two bins full of leftover yarn? 😁 Scrappy projects and trashy treasures! 🤩 In the photo above, t hat's three year's worth of bits and pieces. Yes, it's been three years since the last time I posted about this love of mine: Colorful Leftovers . So, this makes it a regular routine now. 😎 So many fun projects in these bags and bins, so much love and color. 😍 All those crochet items, long gone now, but never forgotten. Free to good homes. And so many more on the way.  I love making scrappy poms (above)! I don't like them tight and fluffy, but you can easily trim these and make them that way. I prefer this loose and floppy look, because it reminds me of a cute cartoon character, or an adorable sea creature. Maybe a hybrid combination of cartoons, creatures, and characters. 😄 Here's a whole folder with pictures of how cute these colorful critters look, plus several shots of the easy process to make one: Scruffy Poms Anot...
