Under Color Crochet

  A labor of love. I tried and tried, and tried again (and again, twice) to make this work. In two locations, three different geometries. A love-hate relationship. I had to give up. Let it go. I cannot make a Christmas tree out of my yarn. But I can keep dreaming. 😂 The good news is, I have a fantastic "yarn pile tree skirt scarf thing" here, and some day I may figure out how to actually use it as a yarn tree skirt. 😋 Christmas Tree Skirt I have a long love affair going with Christmas fun! 😍 And it's only December 1st right now, stay tuned.       Aw! This makes me so happy: my dearest cousin, Cathy, opening boxes from me. 😍 I sent a few small boxes of my simple stuff, just the usual colorful creations that I love making. And I love it even more when those creative crochet pieces go to a good home. 😎 Free-To-Good-Home could be the title of this blog, instead of Under Color Crochet. 😁 Because all of my crochet items are donated to friends, family, and organizations that can best make use of them. And Cathy is using them to cheer, warm, and inspire her students! This blue'n'white quartet combo makes me so happy. 😍 I had way too much colorful fun working in just these simple hues. Here's a photo album, Shapes of Capes , full of proof that I enjoy this too much. 😁 I have a long term love affair going with blues: Blue Moon , Two Blue , Blue and Blue . And with whites: Snow Day  (when it's all about pure vanilla'ness),  Candy Snow , and  Fireworks Cake Volcano Circus  (when it just needs a dramatic touch of white contrast).  I absolutely love the shapes of these capes. 🤩 The blue cape is made with extra fine weight yarn, with a touch of sparkle. And the white cape (more of a shawl, really, but kinda cape'y, too 😎) is made with a bulky weight chenille that feels like warm cloud.   Love this delightful gift from my niece, Inara! 😍 It is not crochet, but it deserves a post here, because this sweet piece is super special on so many levels. First of all, Inara is technically not my niece. 😁 But, she calls me Aunt Becky, and I do love that. For all the kids who are not my nieces and nephews  (they're my dozens of cousins' kids, mostly 😎)  who've been calling me Aunt Becky since I can remember, I feel that special love. Extended family is a rare blend of extra family on top of more family. 💑💖   Inara is the daughter of my brother's in-laws, so she is Frank's niece by marriage. It has been over a decade since Frank's wife passed away, and he is still close with his in-laws. Still family. That is special beyond words, and I'm richly blessed and deeply grateful to be a little part of that. This sparkling beautiful blue piece was such a labor of love, whew! I broke up with it multiple times, but we always got back together. 😍 My on-again off-again relationship with this piece (above) was so dramatic, I had to move on to a similarly colored piece (below), but with double the strands. 😎   Both pieces are alternating rows of single crochet and   triple crochet stitch, in super fine weight yarn. That makes for slow going. With this lacey yarn, it takes a long time to work up any amount. And it is so worth it! 😍 This yarn (above) is called Amazing Lace, and the two colors here are Cobalt Butterfly (right) and Turquoise Shell (left). Fantastic names for fantastic colors! I absolutely love how they look together. In certain light, they almost look like the same color. But then in other light, they are clearly so different.   Way too cute! So easy and fun to make, I absolutely love this little project. I learned how to make the basic pattern here: Genghis Con . I attended a fantastic Side Quest called "Crochet a Dice Bag," hosted by a super nice guy, and attended by really cool people. I can't remember anybody's names now, but I hope to see them again next year, and show them this blog post. 😍 At the Side Quest, we each got to pick a small ball of yarn. I picked simple gray, and immediately loved how smart, cool, and simple this pattern is. The dice bag used up only about half the yarn ball, so when I got home, I experimented with a variation of the pattern. The experiment ended up producing more of a basket than a bag. And I learned a thing or two there, which was cool, and I actually really like the basket option, but I knew then that I wanted to stick with the bag pattern for now. I made this trio for a co-worker's going away party. So sad to see her go, but so happy for her career upgrade. 🤩 I love her dearly, she trained me on everything, and I can hardly imagine the office without her. But, I know she is going to be awesome in her new position (coaching volleyball!) and I am going to have to move forward without her. 😎 When my co-worker told me her three favorite colors were red, black, and purple - I knew exactly what I needed to do! No mixing, but plenty of matching. Who says bold colors clash?! Certainly not me! I had to make a trio of those bold colors, just to prove you can layer anything over and under anything else, when they are all fabulous. 😎  Nothing fancy here, just the plain old usual: rectangular scarves, mesh pattern, fringe and ruffle.
