Under Color Crochet

  I love a simple scarf! 😍 Look at those beautiful colors! This was an interesting experiment. Both of the above came from the same skein, of a Carnival color scheme from Hobbii Yarns. The top piece is working short rows of sc going vertically with the scarf, and the bottom piece is working long rows of sc going horizontally with the scarf. What an interesting difference the direction makes! Two completely different scarves, same single crochet stitch the whole way.  I love the look and the texture of that sc stitch. Nothing fancy about this, and the simple beauty just glows through! I know, I would LOVE to embellish both with some fringe and ruffle. 😎 But, this little experiment is all about keeping it simple, because these examples are for a show-and-tell with my Beginner Crochet Class. These cuties are all wrapped up like a Christmas present! They are just little ruffles, gently twisted - wound up to be twirlie-whirlies. And, when I say, "just ruffles," I don't actually mean JUST ruffles. 😁 I mean they are just too cute, and way too much ruffle'y fun. Like a little Christmas toy for crochet geeks. 😎 Twisted super tight, and then folded into a circle, these little twirly toys turn into wreaths! How cute is that?! 😍 This is the perfect way to use up yarn leftovers and scrappy bits of random colors. Twisted together like this, anything goes, and everything works.  Peachy, pink, and orange? Yes, please!  Ruffles look so magical in any color, they're perfect for holiday decorations. Even in non-traditional colors, these twirly toys just feel like cute Christmas curls.   A labor of love. I tried and tried, and tried again (and again, twice) to make this work. In two locations, three different geometries. A love-hate relationship. I had to give up. Let it go. I cannot make a Christmas tree out of my yarn. But I can keep dreaming. 😂 The good news is, I have a fantastic "yarn pile tree skirt scarf thing" here, and some day I may figure out how to actually use it as a yarn tree skirt. 😋 Christmas Tree Skirt I have a long love affair going with Christmas fun! 😍 And it's only December 1st right now, stay tuned.   Love this delightful gift from my niece, Inara! 😍 It is not crochet, but it deserves a post here, because this sweet piece is super special on so many levels. First of all, Inara is technically not my niece. 😁 But, she calls me Aunt Becky, and I do love that. For all the kids who are not my nieces and nephews  (they're my dozens of cousins' kids, mostly 😎)  who've been calling me Aunt Becky since I can remember, I feel that special love. Extended family is a rare blend of extra family on top of more family. 💑💖   Inara is the daughter of my brother's in-laws, so she is Frank's niece by marriage. It has been over a decade since Frank's wife passed away, and he is still close with his in-laws. Still family. That is special beyond words, and I'm richly blessed and deeply grateful to be a little part of that.   Way too cute! So easy and fun to make, I absolutely love this little project. I learned how to make the basic pattern here: Genghis Con . I attended a fantastic Side Quest called "Crochet a Dice Bag," hosted by a super nice guy, and attended by really cool people. I can't remember anybody's names now, but I hope to see them again next year, and show them this blog post. 😍 At the Side Quest, we each got to pick a small ball of yarn. I picked simple gray, and immediately loved how smart, cool, and simple this pattern is. The dice bag used up only about half the yarn ball, so when I got home, I experimented with a variation of the pattern. The experiment ended up producing more of a basket than a bag. And I learned a thing or two there, which was cool, and I actually really like the basket option, but I knew then that I wanted to stick with the bag pattern for now. Obviously, I had way too much fun posing these pieces.   😆 Just keepin' it real.  🤩 LOL! I love this guy. I feel like I dated him once.  😎 Ok, seriously now, here is what these pieces actually look like (below), when not pretending to be too dude cool. But, they're still totally cool, of course. 😎  The same basic pattern, all the same faves that I love (fringe, ruffle, too many colors and textures all at once). The only thing I love more than making them is giving them away to friends and family. 😍 And I keep on accumulating the leftovers. I love these little leftovers!
