Under Color Crochet

  I am thrilled with  a 2nd place and a 3rd place ribbon on these two pieces! 🤩😎 Two out of seven ain't bad. 😁 Thank you, Colorado State Fair judges! As you can see, I am excited here. 😆 I am now very motivated to improve my skills, and upgrade my color schemes.  Next year, I plan on entering more creative and colorful items.   Seven crochet items, dropped off today: entries in the Arts & Crafts division of the Colorado State Fair. 😎 I am super excited about this, and I had so much fun getting everything ready. There are so many possible categories in the fair guidelines, it is a blizzard of options. The seven items are (above, from left to right): 1. These two sweet pieces are the cutest  Pillow Pair  in the galaxy! I absolutely love everything about them both. So fun and easy to make (just granny square your way along 😍), and a great way to use up multiple leftovers and favorite colors. I do have plenty of both. 😎 These two pillows have pretty much all the same variety of colors, but there is a big difference in how those colors are arranged. And that adds up to two completely different looks. Like, color magic. I love that! 🤩 Above, on the left, is the loosey-goosey version of this granny square pattern, with three ch stitches in every corner, and one ch stitch between every set of three dc stitches along the sides. And on the right is the righty-tightie version, same granny square concept, but with only two ch stitches per corner, and no ch stitches in between the three dc stitches along the sides.   Wild'n'wacky color combinations like this are not just for hippies who like ruffles. These are also perfect for any bohemian, beatnik, and flower child who likes fluffy pillows. I had way too much fun making these far out pieces, and I would make more - except this yarn (Mandala Fluffy) has been discontinued. Ah, well, that's probably for the best.  😁 The pink-and-orange color scheme is called "Zebra Lionfish" and the purple-and-aqua color scheme is "Scorpionfish." Great names! Can't go wrong with color schemes based on tropical fish. 🤩 This yarn is a super bulky weight, also sometimes called jumbo. Very easy to handle, and it works up so fast, it's practically begging you to keep working it. 😎  I used a size J crochet hook, and it flowed right along smoothly. I had thought that the fluffiness of this yarn might snag, and make it difficult to work with. But that never happened, and I remembered that I have already worked with this yarn, mak...

  This double sided piece has everything a princess needs in a pillow- fringe, fluff, sparkle, and ruffle, all in pink. One side is puffy soft and the other side is metallic crisp, both princess'y pink. The edges are double ruffled, in pink chenille. All four corners have three textures of fringe, each more pink than the last. Did I mention that this piece is pink? This piece is so pink, it makes a single pink look not even that pink. 😋 I had so much fun practicing my pillow-making skills on this piece. Eventually I'm going to get good enough at this, I will enter a single perfect pillow in the state fair. The "Pillow Category" is highly competitive, and those Pillow Judges are judgmentally judgmental. I need to be prepared. Not sure if I'll get there this year.   So delightful! Four pillows in a pile, all different sizes and each with its own colorful flair. Tied up with the cheerful bow of  Coral Snake , this fluffy stack of ruffled fun would make a cute gift for a bridal or baby shower. I'm thinking about entering the whole fun bundle in the state fair... but judges will look too close and find all the imperfections too fast. 😎 A few old lumpy pillows easily transformed into this stack of puffy ruffles! Don't look too close. The lumpy stuffing is still lumpy. 😋 I just didn't want to throw out big old pillows, and this project was already percolating in my mind. After running the bumpy blobs through the wash one more time, they smelled so clean and fresh, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with those old pillows - make new pillows! 😃 Aw, look!
