These two sweet pieces are the cutest Pillow Pair in the galaxy! I absolutely love everything about them both. So fun and easy to make (just granny square your way along 😍), and a great way to use up multiple leftovers and favorite colors. I do have plenty of both. 😎 These two pillows have pretty much all the same variety of colors, but there is a big difference in how those colors are arranged. And that adds up to two completely different looks. Like, color magic. I love that! 🤩
Above, on the left, is the loosey-goosey version of this granny square pattern, with three ch stitches in every corner, and one ch stitch between every set of three dc stitches along the sides. And on the right is the righty-tightie version, same granny square concept, but with only two ch stitches per corner, and no ch stitches in between the three dc stitches along the sides. The other big difference between these two pieces is the strands of yarn in each stitch. The loosey-goosey granny square is worked with a single strand of yarn, and this makes it lace-like, and simply oh-so-sweet. The pillow inside shows through, like a little peek-a-boo. I also added an easy ruffle along the edges, which finishes it with a soft flair. In contrast, the righty-tightie granny square is worked with a double strand (of two different colors!), which makes it sturdy and snug. I finished it off with an edge of sc stitches, no fancy flare, just the colorful topping on a perfect fit.
Loosey-goosey above. Righty-tighty below.
I had so much fun making these two sweet pieces, and I have my crochet buddy, Trisha, to thank for the perfect pillows. 😍 She donated six of them to my crochet class, a few months ago. And we did use up four of them in various projects, but these two leftovers came home with me, and now they have been put to perfect, pretty, pillow project use. 😎
The double strands in the righty-tighty granny squares above are the same six colors (pink, purple, lilac, blue, orange, peach), but paired differently. This makes for two different sides of the same pillow looking fabulous. 😁 The single strands in the loosey-goosey granny squares below are an arrangement of light pink rows alternating with the repeating pattern of pale green, bright pink, pale blue, shimmery orange, and muted purple. What colorful fun! 🤩
I had way too much fun playing with this pillow. 😎
I do have a bit of a long term love affair going on with pillows:
The award winning photo above is all about me, plain and simple, plus the wonders of nature in the outdoors. 😆 Thanks, Crochet Nation , for the inspiration. I had some delightful fun posing for that silly photo, with my first silly hat. And my brother wins the award for most patient old Army guy in the galaxy. Here are several more photos that he so professionally took for me: photo contest . Posing in a silly hat is a special skill. 😎 Famous crochet supermodel, Marzie, makes this silly hat look like a million dollar fun fest! 😍 Actually, her sweet curls make the hat look positively boring. 😂 Marzie is the granddaughter of my dear cousin, Linda, who is also a famous crochet model herself: New Orleans Winter I have a long term love affair going on with accessories. 🤩 The original post was just the beginning, Silly Hats . I keep adding to this collection: Crochet Silly Hats And more are on the way - stay tuned for a swamp wedding themed p...
This amazing piece took first place at the Colorado State Fair! The super friendly artist, Christine Fleetwood, explained to me that the pattern (Twisted Toadstool) is available here: The Twisted Hatter . Wow! I may or may not decide to try that some day. Christine told me that the pattern is "not super complicated," and I almost kinda believe her a little bit maybe. 😆 I am in awe of Christine's crochet skills - this incredibly talented artist is here: TheSaltyStitchery on Etsy. And here: TheSaltyStichery on Facebook. Here's a folder of a few more pics of this gorgeous piece at the Colorado State Fair: Crochet Envy and Awe 1 . When I grow up, I want to be just like Christine. 😁 And now, next up, in this gawker report: This incredible piece is on display in the Financial Aid office at CSUP. Yes! If you're in Pueblo, you can go see this crochet art gallery yourself, and be awestruck like I was. When I first saw this, I was escorting a student here, and this pi...
I crocheted a few playful pieces as a wedding gift for Brian & Kendall. 😍 Their Swamp Wedding theme was the inspiration for this collection, and I had so much fun making it all! Every piece was a learning curve for me, and a little adventure. This was my first time doing amigurumi, and now I'm all in. 😎 So grateful to the mother of the groom, my New Orleans cousin, Linda, for the design inspiration on this theme. Thanks to the Swamp Wedding, I have learned so much making these cute critters, it has taken my crochet skills to the next level. 🤩 Two helpful books got me started: Here's some pics of the patterns: amigurumi patterns The first thing I made was a silly hat for the bride and groom. Swampy versions of these Silly Hats , which have been a joy to make every time: Silly Hats in Action . Thanks, Snappy Tots , for a great pattern. Very fun to do these hats in swampy colors! These hats also made perfect buckets for stashing the critters. After the...
