Swampy Amigurumi

I crocheted a few playful pieces as a wedding gift for Brian & Kendall. 😍 Their Swamp Wedding theme was the inspiration for this collection, and I had so much fun making it all! Every piece was a learning curve for me, and a little adventure. This was my first time doing amigurumi, and now I'm all in. 😎 So grateful to the mother of the groom, my New Orleans cousin, Linda, for the design inspiration on this theme. Thanks to the Swamp Wedding, I have learned so much making these cute critters, it has taken my crochet skills to the next level. 🤩 Two helpful books got me started:

Here's some pics of the patterns: amigurumi patterns

The first thing I made was a silly hat for the bride and groom. Swampy versions of these Silly Hats, which have been a joy to make every time: Silly Hats in Action. Thanks, Snappy Tots, for a great pattern. Very fun to do these hats in swampy colors!

These hats also made perfect buckets for stashing the critters.

After the hats, I got down to the business of critters and creatures. First I made two snakes, in very different color schemes. Then I made two frogs, two alligators, and two crawdads. Then, I had to go back and make one more alligator, in an albino color scheme, because those lil' gators are just too cute! 😍 Along the way, I also made several variations of swampy vines, weedy things, and mossy blobs. Plus two swamp blankets, so they can each set it all out for playtime with kiddos. Way too much fun! Here's a whole folder of pics, showing me and my amigurumi adventure: Swamp Wedding. And here's a couple of videos:

The wedding in New Orleans was absolutely gorgeous, at Audubon Park underneath the huge oaks with their drapery of Spanish moss. Then, the next day, the bride and groom hosted a wonderful brunch at their lovely home, and I was beyond thrilled to see that my little amigurumi gifts to them were displayed everywhere!

The beautiful bride, Kendall, is an artist. Her amazing work was on display at the Audubon Clubhouse and at their home. She had created gorgeous pieces for their Swamp Wedding theme, and I was awed by the creative spirit of her work. The most amazing pieces are the alligator heads that she made from fabric, wire, shells, and other adornments. Then, I had to chuckle when my Iowa cousin, Dan, posed this shot of one of my little crochet items being devoured by one of Kendall's magical beasts:
