Magenta Mischief

Image
Mount Magenta would be a good title here. Or, Magenta Mountain. I also thought about calling this post Marvelous Miss Magenta. Then there is Magenta Madness. And Magenta Mayhem, too. But I didn't want to sound too crazy. Because there could not possibly be More Magenta, this must be the Most Magenta. Obviously, this piece could have been called Magnificent Magenta, or Magical Magenta. And, I almost went with Marry Me Magenta.😎 I decided to put "mischief" in the title because of the little experiment I tried here: combining a fine weight acrylic yarn with a medium weight cotton-acrylic blend. I wasn't sure at first if that contrast was going to work. I was prepared to unravel the whole thing and just forget about it, if I didn't like what was taking shape. And that never happened, of course, because I loved every stitch of what immediately started to take shape. I like how in the photo below there is a little bit of sparkle visible in the cotton-acrylic blend yarn

These two pieces came together easy and made a perfect pair of sparkly pals. Both have the same simple mesh pattern I've been having fun with (in recent projects like  Moon Stone  and  Caramel Mocha ), and both are loaded with fringe. Love it! 😍O n a whim, I decided to add ruffles to the Earth piece, perhaps to simulate ocean waves, or cloudy sky, or just ruffly sparkle free form fun. I'm obsessed with the range of reds in the Mars piece. Each row revealed a new layer of complexity in how to describe another reddish glow. There's a delicious looking row of apple cinnomen, in between rows of sienna and slate. Sometimes the names of the colors don't sound as gorgeous as they look - rust, clay, brick, burnt ochre. But with that metallic thread running through them all, I promise those red variations combine with shine. There's even mud-mixed-with-wine, I don't know what else to call it. 😎 It is a long road to gorgeous.🤩 This is where texture meets color, and the

Another "Shawl in a Cake" easy piece. I love making these. This shawl is actually a double shawl, because I used two cakes at once (see photos below). I wasn't sure if that was going to work, but once I got going with it, I was delighted. The varying lines of gray, silver, and white overlapped beautifully to give a final blend of shimmering stone, so light and magical looking, it surprised me. The double strand of yarn gives this piece a sturdiness that drapes perfectly. Gorgeous! 😍  There is a thin metallic thread running through the yarn, and these photos just don't capture it. I promise, the sparkle is there.  And the combination of the two cakes' color schemes creates a texture that looks marbled.  Gorgeous! 😍  The yarn company calls this color scheme "Om Opal." I do appreciate their peace-and-love vibe in naming color schemes (their "Namaste Neutrals" is what I called  Caramel Mocha ), but I have to (again) disagree here. Opal is an okay
