Holiday Yarn Pile

Image
A labor of love. I tried and tried, and tried again (and again, twice) to make this work. In two locations, three different geometries. A love-hate relationship. I had to give up. Let it go. I cannot make a Christmas tree out of my yarn. But I can keep dreaming. 😂 The good news is, I have a fantastic "yarn pile tree skirt scarf thing" here, and some day I may figure out how to actually use it as a yarn tree skirt. 😋 Christmas Tree Skirt I have a long love affair going with Christmas fun! 😍 And it's only December 1st right now, stay tuned. I'll soon be adding to this colorful list: Candy Cane Ruffle Centerpieces Wintergreen Winter Mint Blue Christmas Candy Snow Snow Day

"Unboxing Becky"

Image
Aw! This makes me so happy: my dearest cousin, Cathy, opening boxes from me. 😍 I sent a few small boxes of my simple stuff, just the usual colorful creations that I love making. And I love it even more when those creative crochet pieces go to a good home. 😎 Free-To-Good-Home could be the title of this blog, instead of Under Color Crochet. 😁 Because all of my crochet items are donated to friends, family, and organizations that can best make use of them. And Cathy is using them to cheer, warm, and inspire her students! I am absolutely thrilled about that. 🤩 In the snapshot above, Cathy has just opened the box with the gray sister of Sister Shawls .   And below, she is opening the box that contains one of the two Devil'icious pieces. The other sister of Sister Shawls and the other Devil'icious piece went to Inara... Now that I think about it, I need to get those two fabulously creative gals together.   😎 To see the whole playlist of videos, go here: U...

Devil'icious

Image
Too much devil'ish fun? Never! With a color scheme of "Coral Stripes," and fluffy fringe of "Pink Poodle," this delightfully devil'icious piece is my new fave of faves. And, it actually had an encore. I made a second piece just like it, only bigger. With more Pink Poodle. Because more is more. 😎 Here is a folder of photos showing how much fun I had making (and posing 🤩) these two sweet pieces of pink poodle'icious'ness: Devil'icious.   Nothing fancy here, just the same easy peasy pattern that I love copying ( simple mesh scarf ), because I can do it with my eyes closed. 😃 For the main body, I used yarn (above) that I got on clearance. So colorful, caught my eye right away, Coral Stripes color scheme. For the edging and fringe, I used yarn (below) that I got on sale. So luxuriously fluffy! I simply could not resist, and with a name like Pink Poodle, what is a bling-loving gal to do? 🤩 I'm obsessed with the fluffy luxury of Go For Faux! ...

Starting Chains

Image
I super duper especially loved working with this novelty yarn: two shades of pink, glossy sheen, with sequins. 🤩 Could it BE any more fabulous?!  😎  I've had a long term love affair with sequins:    Gold and Silver ,   Winter Mint ,   Moon Stone ,  Snow Day .   But I know, it looks more fabulous than it feels...it can be a bit scratchy on the skin. That's why I mostly just experiment and have fun with it, but I don't work up big projects on it... or do I?!  😁 I do this often: make a giant ball of starting chain. Sometimes I combine fine strands (above) and sometimes I just take one bulky strand (below) and run with it. 😁 In the end, all I end up with is a giant ball of a starting chain, and it feels like I have really accomplished something great. 😎 Like, "Big ball. Me made big ball. No purpose, just. Ball." 😆 I love combining strands of various textures (below is a faux-hair strand plus a sequined strand, both fine weight), and I espec...

Purple Princess Party

Image
These four pieces are way too much girly fun. 😎 I loved making this set, all my fave easy frills. Ruffle, fringe, fluff, faux fur, purple, and more purple. This pile just needs a princess. Or a costume party. 🤩 These pieces don't stack well...or do they?! 😍 All the ruffles keep getting in the way of a straight fold. But never mind that. Who needs an even fold when things can pile up so pretty? Plus, these pieces look lovely just scattered about. That's perfect for lazy princesses. 😁 I had too much fun posing these pieces. They might not fold and stack well, but they absolutely do shape and drape. Perfect for arranging anywhere there is space to hang out a little. 😎 Love this mix of textures! Each piece has its own personality. Fluffy faux fur trim (above), and luxurious chenille (below). Nothing fancy here. Just asymmetric double ruffles (below). 😎 Keepin' it simple. Keepin' it real. 😄 These could almost be classy...  If they weren't so sassy. 😎 Textur...

What a Mess!

Image
Yes, a mess. A fine mess. I had way too much fun with this messy project. It is such a hot mess. I love it too much. Two scarves... d ouble trouble? More than that. Three yarns...triple trouble? Kinda, but add one more. Quadruple the fun! Yes, the mess. The three yarns in the photo above form t he body of one piece (below left) and the fringe of the other piece (below right). Then, a fourth kind of yarn is the ruffle and fringe of the left piece a nd the body of the right piece. Got it? Love it! A fine mess, a fun mess, say "yes!" to the mess. I'm such a fan of combining textures and pairing yarns, here's an accounting of three other cozy combinations I've created recently: Two Blue, Magenta Mischief , Moonstone . Because of that triple inspiration of doubles, of course the math worked out that I had to next try creating a double project of triples. Making sense so far?! 😎 I had two colors of chenille yarn leftover from previous projects (powder blue and lilac...
