Under Color Crochet

  Way too cute! So easy and fun to make, I absolutely love this little project. I learned how to make the basic pattern here: Genghis Con . I attended a fantastic Side Quest called "Crochet a Dice Bag," hosted by a super nice guy, and attended by really cool people. I can't remember anybody's names now, but I hope to see them again next year, and show them this blog post. 😍 At the Side Quest, we each got to pick a small ball of yarn. I picked simple gray, and immediately loved how smart, cool, and simple this pattern is. The dice bag used up only about half the yarn ball, so when I got home, I experimented with a variation of the pattern. The experiment ended up producing more of a basket than a bag. And I learned a thing or two there, which was cool, and I actually really like the basket option, but I knew then that I wanted to stick with the bag pattern for now. This piece has the look and feel of a warm sunny day in January. 🤩 Nuthin' fancy, nuthin' new here. Just the same easy rectangle that I love making. Same simple mesh pattern (click here to see the steps) . Can't say it's very special, this one single piece... aw, but look at it! Super sunny special. 🌞 I love how soft and sweet it is, the yarn is perfectly named "So Soft." Plus it has a subtle sheen that makes it look like an actual ray of sunshine.  I love how it keeps changing color, depending on the lighting and background. My phone camera sometimes couldn't decide where to go with this yellow, I had to chuckle when I watched it adjust itself to the color each time. Sometimes buttery golden, sometimes more lemony yellow, sometimes almost orange'ish-but-not-quite. This color is so full and yet still cozy, it says complex. Ah, makes me think of fine wine. Hmm, sounds good right about now. 🤩 The yarn company calls this color "Saffron," and...

  Orange, pink, yellow, purple, green and white go perfectly together! When you panel the bold colors, trim with more delicate colors, and fringe the whole package with all of the above. 🤩 Too big to be a baby blanket. (Or, is it?!) Not big enough to be an afghan. (But still?) Shaped wrong for a shawl, but could be a silly shawl for kids' dress-up. (Obviously.) Too small for a bedspread. (Maybe not?) Too big for a lap blanket. (Or might be perfect?) 😄 This piece is definitely perfect. This piece was so easy and fun to make: four panels of double crochet, each with single crochet edging in a different color. Then trimmed with a barely-there ruffle (just two stitches per one base stitch) in white. This gives it a fun flounce, and doesn't take as long to work up. Then fringe added to the long edges, using all the colors.   I had way too much fun posing this piece as a silly, spouting, colorful cake. 😎 But it also poses very nicely as the over-sized lap blanket that it is...
