Holiday Yarn Pile

Image
A labor of love. I tried and tried, and tried again (and again, twice) to make this work. In two locations, three different geometries. A love-hate relationship. I had to give up. Let it go. I cannot make a Christmas tree out of my yarn. But I can keep dreaming. 😂 The good news is, I have a fantastic "yarn pile tree skirt scarf thing" here, and some day I may figure out how to actually use it as a yarn tree skirt. 😋 Christmas Tree Skirt I have a long love affair going with Christmas fun! 😍 And it's only December 1st right now, stay tuned. I'll soon be adding to this colorful list: Candy Cane Ruffle Centerpieces Wintergreen Winter Mint Blue Christmas Candy Snow Snow Day

"Unboxing Becky"

Image
Aw! This makes me so happy: my dearest cousin, Cathy, opening boxes from me. 😍 I sent a few small boxes of my simple stuff, just the usual colorful creations that I love making. And I love it even more when those creative crochet pieces go to a good home. 😎 Free-To-Good-Home could be the title of this blog, instead of Under Color Crochet. 😁 Because all of my crochet items are donated to friends, family, and organizations that can best make use of them. And Cathy is using them to cheer, warm, and inspire her students! I am absolutely thrilled about that. 🤩 In the snapshot above, Cathy has just opened the box with the gray sister of Sister Shawls .   And below, she is opening the box that contains one of the two Devil'icious pieces. The other sister of Sister Shawls and the other Devil'icious piece went to Inara... Now that I think about it, I need to get those two fabulously creative gals together.   😎 To see the whole playlist of videos, go here: U...

Sister Shawls

Image
These two sweet pieces have so much in common - and they are so entirely different from each other. I had to call them Sister Shawls. 😁 Like these two shawls, my sister and I had a lot in common, and we were completely opposite on so many things. Aw, Cindy, my big sis, I miss you. 😍  I think Cindy would have liked both of these shawls. They are the exact same pattern, but two totally different yarns. The gray yarn is a bulky weight chenille, so soft and luxurious, it is absolutely dreamy to wear. It also has a beautiful sheen that makes this luscious color anything but dull gray. The pale turquoise colored yarn is extra fine weight, and actually kind of hard to work with, it's so fine. Take a look at how delicate it is:  This is my favorite "Summer Nights" yarn, that I usually work with three strands at a time. But I decided, for once, I would work with just the one strand, because I wanted the lace look. It was slow going, very slow to work up. But, so absolutely wor...

Cape Closet

Image
This blue'n'white quartet combo makes me so happy. 😍 I had way too much colorful fun working in just these simple hues. Here's a photo album, Shapes of Capes , full of proof that I enjoy this too much. 😁 I have a long term love affair going with blues: Blue Moon , Two Blue , Blue and Blue . And with whites: Snow Day  (when it's all about pure vanilla'ness),  Candy Snow , and  Fireworks Cake Volcano Circus  (when it just needs a dramatic touch of white contrast).  I absolutely love the shapes of these capes. 🤩 The blue cape is made with extra fine weight yarn, with a touch of sparkle. And the white cape (more of a shawl, really, but kinda cape'y, too 😎) is made with a bulky weight chenille that feels like warm cloud. Two completely different textures, but one feel of love from me for both. 😍 The blue cape turned out so shapely because of the three strands of extra fine yarn, all worked together simultaneously. The whole piece still has the lightweight feel o...

Green Pieces

Image
These two green pieces are perfect summer fun! On the left is a mesh shawl of medium weight "Soft Secret" yarn, in lime. And on the right is a simple scarf of sc stitches, with light weight "Coboo" yarn in the perfectly named color of grass green. Both pieces have a fluffy edging of "Terryspun" yarn, in a color called glow, which is faintly green and perfectly fun. I loved making these garden party lovlies because it is just so doggone enjoyable to make pretty pieces that are as easy peas'y summer breezy as these. 😍 And because I used up some leftover fuzzy yarn that is hard to work with, but makes perfect edging. Win, win! 😎   Look how great both pieces go with my jean jacket! 🤩 I love the texture and feel of both pieces, each with a different look. The larger shawl is a simple mesh pattern, like the one described in the first post: Piles of Color.   And the smaller scarf is just a long skinny rectangle of sc. Easy peas'y summer breezy! 😎 F...

Centerpieces

Staff Christmas Party!! What a great way to give away colorful fun!  😎  I helped decorate the tables at our staff Christmas party, and I was allowed to put a crochet piece or two, or three  🤩  on each table. If this snazzy stack looks familiar (remember, that back-loop-only trick?! so easy, so snazzy) , it is because it first appeared here: Comfy Cozy . Now, as a centerpiece, this trio of cuddle bundles is even snazzier. Every fun table at this event had a unique look, and the whole place sparkled with festive flavor. Ten tables in all, twenty crochet pieces arranged in their centers. I had way to much fun posing these pieces. 😍 Every one of these pretty pieces has recently appeared in a post on this blog, and it looks like there's been a lot of parties going on!  😎    Party 1  (for those pinky-peach party lovers) and   Party 2   (for those purple lovin' lovers). Oh, and  there was a previous party of inspir...

Moon Stone

Image
Another "Shawl in a Cake" easy piece. I love making these. This shawl is actually a double shawl, because I used two cakes at once (see photos below). I wasn't sure if that was going to work, but once I got going with it, I was delighted. The varying lines of gray, silver, and white overlapped beautifully to give a final blend of shimmering stone, so light and magical looking, it surprised me. The double strand of yarn gives this piece a sturdiness that drapes perfectly. Gorgeous! 😍  There is a thin metallic thread running through the yarn, and these photos just don't capture it. I promise, the sparkle is there.  And the combination of the two cakes' color schemes creates a texture that looks marbled.  Gorgeous! 😍  The yarn company calls this color scheme "Om Opal." I do appreciate their peace-and-love vibe in naming color schemes (their "Namaste Neutrals" is what I called  Caramel Mocha ), but I have to (again) disagree here. Opal is an okay...
