Under Color Crochet

  Seven crochet items, dropped off today: entries in the Arts & Crafts division of the Colorado State Fair. 😎 I am super excited about this, and I had so much fun getting everything ready. There are so many possible categories in the fair guidelines, it is a blizzard of options. The seven items are (above, from left to right): 1. So much happening in this picture, I can't stop staring. And I can't decide which detail I want more. 😎 The fringe, obviously. But, also those ruffles. And then, there's the compressed yarn scraps in those cool containers. All the things I love the most. 😍 Over Christmas break I had plenty of crochet time, and I binged on all my favorites: easy patterns, colorful combinations, and all the embellishments. This three-piece set got more embellished every hour. From ruffle to double-ruffle, and from fringe fest to monster fringe fest. 🤩 I love them hanging out, and I love them all bundled up. With the right posing, they almost look like three cozy characters in a crochet adventure.   Hey, that sounds like an idea for board game design. 😁 Yes, stay tuned.   Way too much silly fun! Child size (on the left) and teenager size (on the right), which fits me just perfectly. 😂 I do plan on completing the set, and get the adult size on this roster. Meanwhile, these pieces deserve a little showing off. 😎 I'm going to enter this one in the state fair this year, and just see if I can't win a blue ribbon for this blue silliness. 😍 I absolutely love this whimsical pattern, and I plan on making several more of these hats, in different sizes and various color schemes. What is a gal gonna do with a couple dozen granny squares that were supposed to be part of a giant afghan, but ended up being a colorfully epic fail of a kit experiment gone rogue? Make granny packs, of course!  😎 I had signed up for a kit club that was a year-long commitment, and the end result would have been a giant afghan of color and texture. I really gave it my best shot. I am not ashamed to say that less than half way through it, I gave up on the afghan, and switched my own gears. I already had so many granny squares completed (below), I knew it was not a wasted effort. There was so much creative potential here, it was a certainty that I was going to do something colorfully fun.  These pictures (above- all stacked up, below- spread out on the coffee table) show how far I got with the actual kit club directions.     The Plan! 🤩 Make a baby blanket, that the Dean of Extended Studies will like. 😎  It has to be soft and sweet, for a baby. But it can't be too baby'ish. 😁 And it has to be ready in time for the baby shower. 🎉 I worked on it pretty much every evening for about a month, never rushed, but always focused on getting it done. I enjoyed every colorful minute of this labor of love project.  I absolutely loved making this baby shower gift. 😍 A giant granny square, with a double ruffle around the whole edge = perfect baby blanket. Six skeins of yarn for the granny square, and another two skeins of white for the double ruffle. Wow! Big blankie. Happy New Year! My goal is to be more colorful. 🤩 So, my New Year's resolution starts right here, right now. Plus, I plan on celebrating ruffle'y fun and fringe'y festiveness all year long. 😎 Also, my other goal is to create more crochet items, with more colorful ruffles, and bigger bundles of fun fringe. 😁 So, these two gorgeous gals are kicking it off perfectly, with their blues'y blue'ness. I love how they both turned out, so different, yet paired so well. There is a lot going on here, with three different yarns, so let's unpack it. 🎁 On the left (above) is a simple mesh pattern with fringe on the ends, and on the right is a simple dc repeating, with ruffles on the edges and ends. The seven basic steps are explained  here , and this is nuthin' new, nuthin' fancy. It's the same old easy'peasy rectangular pattern I love doing, and it's not even really a pattern.
