Granny Packs
I had signed up for a kit club that was a year-long commitment, and the end result would have been a giant afghan of color and texture. I really gave it my best shot. I am not ashamed to say that less than half way through it, I gave up on the afghan, and switched my own gears. I already had so many granny squares completed (below), I knew it was not a wasted effort. There was so much creative potential here, it was a certainty that I was going to do something colorfully fun.
These pictures (above- all stacked up, below- spread out on the coffee table) show how far I got with the actual kit club directions. Fantastic, and so colorfully fun. I learned a lot, and I loved doing it. I have no complaints about the kit club. I might even do something like that again. But, I was starting to feel like one big giant afghan just wasn't my jam (all my love to The Beast), because so much color and texture deserves to be spread around to other pieces.
I have a long term love affair going on with purses. 😍 Just last month, I made this Peachy Purse, and I'm still obsessed with it. Last year, this Bag-O-Rama made me so happy. And before that, there were these Baggitos that made me fall in love again. So, it was no leap at all to dream up a use for these colorful granny squares. They made perfect purses! I had enough small granny squares already made to piece together four variations of this five-sided bag pattern below.
And there were still four large granny squares left over, so I turned those into two bags like this one below. With ruffles and tassels, these granny packs look like something out of a storybook adventure in unicorn land. 🤩 Here's a whole folder of way too many pictures that I had way too much fun posing: Kit'n'Caboodle.
Look at what happens when you pucker the ruffle!
So fun! 😎
I absolutely love making tassels, it is just so easy and colorfully fun. I made good use out of all the extra yarn I now have, since I didn't complete the kit work. 😆 Adding multiple tassels to a granny pack is like adding charms to a bracelet.
Various tassel arrangements.
Love those ruffles!
So colorfully fun!
For when you want a purse and charm bracelet together. 😄
