Blues'y Two for New Year

Happy New Year! My goal is to be more colorful. 🤩 So, my New Year's resolution starts right here, right now. Plus, I plan on celebrating ruffle'y fun and fringe'y festiveness all year long. 😎 Also, my other goal is to create more crochet items, with more colorful ruffles, and bigger bundles of fun fringe. 😁 So, these two gorgeous gals are kicking it off perfectly, with their blues'y blue'ness. I love how they both turned out, so different, yet paired so well. There is a lot going on here, with three different yarns, so let's unpack it. 🎁

On the left (above) is a simple mesh pattern with fringe on the ends, and on the right is a simple dc repeating, with ruffles on the edges and ends. The seven basic steps are explained here, and this is nuthin' new, nuthin' fancy. It's the same old easy'peasy rectangular pattern I love doing, and it's not even really a pattern. It's just fun and simple, to go back and forth across the rows, and watch the textures emerge.

The yarn for the mesh scarf was a Christmas gift from my dear cousin, Linda. Here she is, Gorgeous Gal, looking absolutely fabulous with a ruffle'y fun piece I gave her a few winters ago. 😍 Recently, Linda went on a trip to Ireland, and she brought back this amazing lambswool yarn for me. Wow! So luscious, and almost as gorgeous as she is. 😎 It is fine weight, and so thin, I decided to work it up a bit. I made a starting chain out of approximately two-thirds of the skein, and then I cut fringe for the remaining one-third. I turned that delightful ball of starting chain into the mesh scarf. So fun! I've had some creative experiments before with this starting chain option, Starting Chains, and I'm loving it more each time I do it: starting chain projects shows several examples using novelty yarn, and crochet rope is a favorite gimmick. 😁

I love how you can see little flecks of other colors in this gorgeously colored yarn.

Just this one little mini-ball of leftovers. 😍

The yarn for the scarf of dc repeating stitches is from my collection from Spry Whimsy, which I continue to mix'n'match and fun'n'frolic. 😄 The main body of the scarf is a pairing of two yarns, which makes for a delightful mix of texture and color. Then, the ruffle along the edges is one of those yarns, and along the ends is the other yarn. So fun!

I love collecting these little leftovers, for my solar system of colors and tidbits.

I had way too much fun posing these pieces. 🤩 Here's a whole folder of more pics: Colorful Fun. And here are a few more links to show the long love affair I've had with the blues. 😍
