I'm so mixed on this project - mixed between love and more love! 😍 Also, doubt and confusion. 😁 I thought this first piece (a super sized granny square in the funnzies'est colors ever!) would work up to be the perfect replacement rug for a dusty gray one (that I want to put somewhere else). But now that this colorful fun one is done, I love it too much to put on the floor. And the second colorful piece I'm currently working on is even more colorful than the previous one, thus even less likely to end up as a rug. But, I'm still calling them rugs. 😋
This yarn is so scratchy, I thought it was going to be perfect for making a rug. (Thinking, decorative rug, in an easy space, for being warm under bare feet and socks. Not a rug at the front door for wiping your farmer boots. 😁) And this rough yarn IS kinda perfect... but also kinda NOT perfect. The texture is very rug-like, and does not at all feel like something you'd want around your neck as a scarf, or against your skin as a blanket. So, rug. Right? But. The colors are so vibrant, and the yarn works up so beautifully. It is a fine weight, so it actually flows nicely, and does not feel like a rug at all. It feels more like an old cloak maybe, or a camping blanket. I should have used triple strands, to make it stiff enough to be a rug. This is a fine problem to have. 🤩 It looks great, turned out beautiful, and is just not at all what I expected.
I love working with it, because it is perfectly cozy on an autumn evening. And it is just so colorfully cheerful, despite being scratchy as a mad cat. 😻 I have a bunch of different colors of this itchy yarn, that I bought online from Spry Whimsy Fiber Arts Shop. The first big granny square (above) is a series of five colors, and the second one (below) has six colors going on. I love how they each look in different light, and I had way too much fun posing both pieces. Here is a folder of way too many 😁 colorful pics and poses: Scruffy Rugs. But now I'm confused again, with all this colorful love, because I'm not sure if I love the six colors combination as much as, or more than, I loved the five colors. 😋 Too much pink and purple? Never!
Here's the brand of yarn (below), that Spry Whimsy shipped to me. I love it (so easy to work with, gorgeous colors), and I don't love it (scratchy, scratchy, scratchy). 😁 It is made in Norway, and my hat is off to them, for making pure wool look like (and feel like 😆) pure gemstones. I prolly won't be getting more of this particular kind of yarn, but I will definitely be ordering more from the most delightful store in Stoughton, WI. 😍 Here's a whole folder of that happy day, when my order arrived: Spry Whimsy.
Fringe fest! 😎
I have a long term love affair going 😍 with granny squares:
Too much fringe? Never! 😎
Instead of being a rug, here's a great option it can become: part of a Halloween table (below). 😎 This was a cute little set-up, in the front yard, to welcome trick-or-treaters up the walkway. I think a colorful granny square with fun fringe goes perfectly well with a spooky spider. 😆
