A perfect piece for Halloween fun, and also great anytime anywhere (look how gorgeous it goes with my jean jacket, below). 😎 I absolutely love the sparkling darkness of this piece. 😍 The black color is so deep and rich, and the metallic thread running through it is such sweet twinkling fun. And, of course, I had to have a little fringe fest going on, for even more fun. 😁 Then, there is faux fur trim on one edge, which adds even more richness to the richness 😆, and the ruffle on the other edge is just a touch of whimsy on top of this already fully whimsical piece. 🤩

It is kind of like a shawl, but not quite the right shape. Kinda too big for a scarf, but can still be a scarf. Too small to be a blanket, but who says it can't be a little blankie? 😁


This piece is really long. But it's not the longest piece I've ever made. That honor most definitely has to go to Ruffle Monster. 😆 I have made a couple other really long pieces: Candy Cane, Magenta Mischief, G. I. Jane. But, this Whimsical Witch just seems to out-long them, I think because it is so beautifully black. 😎

This beautiful beast was inspired by Inara, my brother’s niece by marriage. She calls me “Aunt Becky,” even though I'm not actually her aunt in any legal or blood way. Oh, how I love the sound of her sweet voice saying a label that I’ve hardly earned. Extended family is so special, it’s hard to describe, and harder still to explain to people who don’t have as much as we do. Frank’s in-laws became part of my extended family, along with our 22 first cousins (some of whom are almost like siblings to us), and their 45 kids (many of whom are like nieces and nephews to us), all of which I delight in using to confuse my students. Frank’s wife, Kelly, died in 2012, which for some would mean the end of in-law relationships. Instead, a beautiful thing happened, a new closeness. Candy Cane Ruffle

  This sweet piece is my first public showing! 🤩 In the Visitor's Center office  😄 on the  first floor of the CSUP Library! 😎 I'm pretty sure this officially makes me a crochet artist now.   🤔  With my work on display for all the people to see.  😍   I can't stop grinnin'.  😁   There is a happy backstory to this colorful yarn. It is the "free to good home" kind of yarn.   😄 Kenny, one of our university librarians, keeps a lost-and-found assortment of items on a shelf behind the front desk. He called me over one morning and handed this odd ball to me! 😋 It was rather rumpled -  loose'ish and a teeny bit unraveled, and had no label on it. But otherwise perfectly good. Clean, brand new , just lost. Needing a good home. Well, it found one! 😍 Of course, I gladly accepted this little Christmas gift , because I knew immediately what I needed to do - make something sweet and bring it BACK to the library for decoration. 😎 Aw, look how fantasti

"Unboxing Becky"

      Aw! This makes me so happy: my dearest cousin, Cathy, opening boxes from me. 😍 I sent a few small boxes of my simple stuff, just the usual colorful creations that I love making. And I love it even more when those creative crochet pieces go to a good home. 😎 Free-To-Good-Home could be the title of this blog, instead of Under Color Crochet. 😁 Because all of my crochet items are donated to friends, family, and organizations that can best make use of them. And Cathy is using them to cheer, warm, and inspire her students! I am absolutely thrilled about that. 🤩 In the snapshot above, Cathy has just opened the box with the gray sister of Sister Shawls .   And below, she is opening the box that contains one of the two Devil'icious pieces. The other sister of Sister Shawls and the other Devil'icious piece went to Inara...
