Sister Shawls

Image
These two sweet pieces have so much in common - and they are so entirely different from each other. I had to call them Sister Shawls. 😁 Like these two shawls, my sister and I had a lot in common, and we were completely opposite on so many things. Aw, Cindy, my big sis, I miss you. 😍  I think Cindy would have liked both of these shawls. They are the exact same pattern, but two totally different yarns. The gray yarn is a bulky weight chenille, so soft and luxurious, it is absolutely dreamy to wear. It also has a beautiful sheen that makes this luscious color anything but dull gray. The pale turquoise colored yarn is extra fine weight, and actually kind of hard to work with, it's so fine. Take a look at how delicate it is:  This is my favorite "Summer Nights" yarn, that I usually work with three strands at a time. But I decided, for once, I would work with just the one strand, because I wanted the lace look. It was slow going, very slow to work up. But, so absolutely wor...

Cape Closet

This blue'n'white quartet combo makes me so happy. 😍 I had way too much colorful fun working in just these simple hues. Here's a photo album, Shapes of Capes , full of proof that I enjoy this too much. 😁 I have a long term love affair going with blues: Blue Moon , Two Blue , Blue and Blue . And with whites: Snow Day  (when it's all about pure vanilla'ness),  Candy Snow , and  Fireworks Cake Volcano Circus  (when it just needs a dramatic touch of white contrast).  I absolutely love the shapes of these capes. 🤩 The blue cape is made with extra fine weight yarn, with a touch of sparkle. And the white cape (more of a shawl, really, but kinda cape'y, too 😎) is made with a bulky weight chenille that feels like warm cloud. Two completely different textures, but one feel of love from me for both. 😍 The blue cape turned out so shapely because of the three strands of extra fine yarn, all worked together simultaneously. The whole piece still has the lightweight feel o...

Starting Chains

Image
I super duper especially loved working with this novelty yarn: two shades of pink, glossy sheen, with sequins. 🤩 Could it BE any more fabulous?!  😎  I've had a long term love affair with sequins:    Gold and Silver ,   Winter Mint ,   Moon Stone ,  Snow Day .   But I know, it looks more fabulous than it feels...it can be a bit scratchy on the skin. That's why I mostly just experiment and have fun with it, but I don't work up big projects on it... or do I?!  😁 I do this often: make a giant ball of starting chain. Sometimes I combine fine strands (above) and sometimes I just take one bulky strand (below) and run with it. 😁 In the end, all I end up with is a giant ball of a starting chain, and it feels like I have really accomplished something great. 😎 Like, "Big ball. Me made big ball. No purpose, just. Ball." 😆 I love combining strands of various textures (below is a faux-hair strand plus a sequined strand, both fine weight), and I espec...

Small Shawls

Image
I absolutely love these sweet pieces!    😍   They are all the same basic pattern of repeating shell stitches, which I learned from watching this 10-minute video . That easy 10 minutes turned into hours and hours of relaxing, creative, colorful fun. 😎 And, o nce again, thanks Yarned & Dangerous , for the fantastic yarn.   In this quartet of sweet shawls there are actually only three that are small (and multicolored). The fourth one is quite large (and pure purple!), and all of them are completely gorgeous. 🤩 That is one of the cool things about this pattern - you can keep going and going, to make it as large as you want. Or you can stop sooner and make it nice and small. Here's a whole folder of way too many pics, showing how much fun I had with this quartet: Small Shawls . It was because of a fantastic fashion show that I was inspired to make the large purple shawl (above). There was a gathering of local fiber artists, and I fell completely in lo...

Bag-o-rama

I absolutely love this fun'n'friendly bag pattern that my Crochet_Nerd_Girlfriend, Trisha, gave me! 😎 The original pattern has asymmetrical handles (see below for Trisha's perfect version), but I modified mine with the skinny straps you see above. I combined two skeins, one pure white and one a "flower garden" color scheme (thanks,  Yarned & Dangerous ), to make it nice'n'sturdy. And this easy breeze'y pattern is so easy-peas'y because it just goes round'n'round. Here's what that looks like:   No turning after each row, just keep going, and it builds all the way up, to whatever height you want to make it. As in: Folder of Colorful Fun . I am so into this pattern, I kept going and going, and just ended up going crazy. 😍 It's the good kinda' crazy. 😁 Next up is a set of 4 pictures that Trisha sent me, of her work and her work-in-progress. Check this out: Just look at how cool those asymmetrical handles are! First, she did a...
